The aluminum spool houses a 2WAY-DRAG carbon clutch, resistant to water ingress, with performance even more extreme by a large-diameter bearing to support on the spindle, to increase smoothness performance and decrease the 'inertia time needed for the spool to start spinning. The lever for releasing the backstop has been eliminated for use primarily for spinning.
