Welcome to the page of our HiNelson e-commerce entirely dedicated to nautical antennas: here you can find the best equipment for boats of any size and any type, sailing and motor. In this special category, Glomex antennas are undoubtedly the master, and it is not by chance that they have been for years the preferred choice of the most important boatyards at international level.

Saying'Glomex antennas', therefore, is already in itself a guarantee, and this is something that sea wolves know very well. However, choosing the perfectGlomex antenna for one's own boat is not child's play: as you can see on this same page, the offer is in fact wide and heterogeneous, and therefore it is worthwhile to properly inform oneself on the characteristics of every single nautical antenna, in order to choose the most suitable one according to one's own needs.

This is exactly the reason why we wanted to create this small guide: here you will find all the essential information for the choice of your Glomex TV antenna - and if that is not enough, of course, you can count on our assistance: just click on the appropriate button at the bottom right to leave a message to which we will reply as soon as possible!

Glomex antennas - Ravenna: the best nautical antennas

The logo of Glomex of Ravenna is not subtle: the slogan is in fact frank, sure and proud, declaring that their products are 'The best in marine antennas'. After all, Glomex antennas were not born yesterday. No, sir: the Ravenna-based company has been active since 1984, founded by Piero Baldessari. In short, the brand is well past thirty years of age, and the experience gained is accompanied by a constant search for innovation, strengthened by the iron will of Pietro - who, as he likes to emphasize, was trained 'at the university of the docks', working for years in shipyards.

Right from the start, the company's mission has been to produce quality nautical antennas, so as to allow yachtsmen to connect without problems to all types of maritime telecommunications. And, as we know, those who work well and invest wisely in research and human resources, always guaranteeing a high level of efficiency, are destined to expand their range of action year after year. Today, Glomex TV antennas are appreciated everywhere, enjoying stable relationships with manufacturers and distributors all over the world.

The real strength of Glomex Antennas

Reliability, high technology, refined design, efficiency, resistance, wide choice: there are many advantages of purchasing Glomex antennas. However, if one wanted to mention an element that, more than any other, can beat the competition when it comes to nautical antennas, it is surely the lifetime warranty on all products: no other company, in this sector, can offer such a warranty.

And why does the company Glomex of Ravenna manage to do this? Why does a Glomex TV antenna enjoy a lifetime warranty, while its colleagues of other brands cannot offer anything remotely comparable? It's quickly said. This is possible because behind every Glomex antenna there is a meticulous and painstaking selection of raw materials to be used for the realization of the devices. There is a continuous research to arrive at the best nautical antennas, and there are incessant checks carried out daily to be sure of always giving the best, in full compliance with international standards.

Buy Glomex mobile antennas online

There is certainly no lack of Glomex distributors, in Italy as well as in the world. But why search for physical stores when you can comfortably purchase your Glomex TV antenna online? Just two clicks and the deal is done, with the possibility of taking advantage of generous discounts. And that's not all, as the company is also famous for the careful packaging of each product, which is shipped and delivered in special packaging, so as to eliminate any worry in the customer. Given the quality of the product, in fact, it would be absurd to jeopardize its integrity through careless shipping!

Glomex TV antennas: omnidirectional antennas, directional antennas and satellite antennas

When talking about Glomex TV antennas, we are essentially faced with a choice between three different technologies: there are omnidirectional antennas, directional antennas and satellite antennas. Taking for granted the fact that everyone knows by now the difference between satellite antennas and other devices, we would like to underline the difference - unknown to most people - between omnidirectional antennas and directional antennas.

When we talk about omnidirectional antennas we refer to devices that receive from all directions, and therefore at 360 degrees. Different, however, the discourse with regard to directional antennas, which instead must be oriented carefully, as they receive only in a given direction, for an angle of only 60 degrees

Is it better to have an omnidirectional antenna or a directional antenna? Well, those who know about telecommunications know very well that, receiving from any direction, an omnidirectional antenna cannot have a great gain. A directional antenna, on the other hand, is limited to a reduced angle of 60 degrees, and for this reason turns out to be three times more effective than its full-field counterparts.

To get the maximum signal and thus enjoy an optimal signal, the directional antenna can be easily oriented with the simple use of the remote control.

Nautical antennas: what is meant by gain?

Talking about Glomex antennas, we have talked about gain, one of the main parameters to consider when purchasing a receiving device. Starting from the fundamental assumption that an 'antenna' can be defined as any device capable of capturing the electromagnetic waves irradiated in space and then converting them into an electric signal, the gain of an antenna, expressed in dB or dBi, is a value which gives us a rather clear idea of the effective reception - and transmission - capacity of such a device.

However, it would be simplistic to think that an antenna with a higher gain is automatically the absolute best antenna. Things, in fact, are not like that: without going to look at too difficult mathematical formulas, we can just remember that the gain of an antenna is the result of the ratio between the power density radiated in a precise direction and the power density that could be generated in the same direction by an isotropic radiator.

However, it must be stressed that the isotropic radiator, also called isotropic antenna or elementary diipole, actually corresponds to a theoretical mathematical model. In short, it does not exist in reality and can never be built, since it is a device that radiates uniformly, with the same intensity, in any direction.

Starting from these assumptions, we can say with full knowledge of the facts that an antenna with a higher gain is not always preferable. On the contrary, we could in fact have an omnidirectional antenna with 12 dBi gain that, while radiating better than an 8dBi antenna on the plane perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, ends up radiating much less in other directions. Therefore, we are not talking about a 'better' or 'worse' value in absolute terms, but rather about a datum that must be put in relation to the specific use.

Glomex antennas: maximum quality, starting from the materials used

The success of Glomex antennas is also due to the quality of the materials used for the production of the devices. In fact, all nautical antennas are made of the special plastic material ASA, that is acryloyl-nitrile-styrene-acrylate: for those who understand thermoplastic materials, it is sufficient to say that it is an amorphous polymer of the styrenic family. Those who want to buy Glomex antennas, however, do not need theoretical definitions. What matters, in fact, is to know that this material presents an excellent hardness and good mechanical characteristics. But that's not all. Unlike many other plastic materials, the ASA used for the construction of these nautical antennas is not subject to the typical deterioration processes caused by atmospheric agents and the marine environment.

In short, Glomex antennas are resistant to the annoying yellowing that is characteristic of many other devices of inferior quality. Therefore, it is not surprising that ASA is replacing high impact polystyrene (HIPS) in the majority of outdoor applications, just by virtue of its higher resistance, especially to weather conditions. Once positioned on one's boat, therefore, Glomex TV antennas keep their beautiful shiny white colour intact, without compromising the aesthetic performance of the boat.

Buying a Glomex antenna: what do I find in the package?

Once you have purchased the Glomex antenna best suited to your needs, you just have to wait for the arrival of the package, directly to your home. But what will accompany the antenna? What will be in the package? In addition to the antenna itself, the price includes a 20-metre coaxial cable - which is reduced to 10 metres in the case of certain Glomex omnidirectional TV antenna models, such as the Avior VT3000 - as well as any tools needed for the installation of the connectors that are delivered.

Glomex satellite TV antennas

In addition to the classic directional and omnidirectional TV antennas, Glomex offers a wide range of satellite TV antennas. The offer was then enriched with the introduction of second generation Digital Video Broadcasting - often abbreviated to DVB-S2 - which gives boaters the possibility of receiving a highly satisfactory TV signal, so that they can enjoy watching Full HD and 4K channels even at sea.

A peculiar objective of Glomex satellite antennas is the elimination of noise, which, together with the innovative high-performance parabolic disks, ensures a total and enviable silence, annihilating the disturbances related to the progressive increase of satellites in orbit.

Satellite antennas: what is DVB-S2?

Glomex satellite TV antennas, as anticipated, have made a leap forward in the universe of nautical telecommunications, passing to DVB-S2. But what specifically are we talking about? The simple abbreviation DVB-S refers to any TV transmission on satellite. We are therefore talking about transponders with an average capacity of about 40 MBps: with these values it is usually possible to transmit on the same frequency no more than 10 standard channels or, in case of HD transmission, no more than 5 channels. The more channels are transmitted on the same transponder, the lower the transmission quality will be.

The reasons for the development of DVB-S2, which increases the bandwidth of the transponders, can be understood: we are no longer talking about 40 MBps, but 65 MBps. With these figures, up to 10 HD channels can be transmitted on the same frequency, which was simply unthinkable at the previous stage.

Glomex antennas: some answers to the most common doubts

  • Where is it preferable to install the Glomex TV antenna?

There are no absolute rules for the installation of these devices on one's boat, but only one general rule of thumb: Glomex TV antennas should be installed high up, far from any possible obstacle to the signal.

  • Where to install nautical antennas on sailing boats?

In the case of sailing boats, the best place to install a Glomex antenna is undoubtedly the masthead, using the appropriate support.

  • Can there be interferences between radar and antenna?

Absolutely yes: for this reason, it is necessary to install the antenna on a different level from the radar, in order to eliminate any kind of mutual interference.

  • Is it difficult to connect the connector to the antenna base?

Absolutely not: in fact, inside the package of the Glomex nautical antenna, you will also find a special tool, through which you can easily screw the connector.

  • How many TV sets can be connected to a single Glomex TV antenna?

This depends on the splitter used: connecting to a V9147 splitter the maximum number of devices is two, while with a 50022 splitter it is possible to have up to 6 TV sets.

  • The coaxial cable I have is not long enough. What can I do?

There are two possibilities: you can extend the existing cable with an additional cable, connecting the two through an F connector. In this way, however, you will lose gain, which will decrease for each additional connection. The second method - more effective - consists instead in replacing the previous coaxial cable with a longer one: in this way you will not compromise the quality of the signal.

  • Where to install the amplifier?

The place to install the amplifier should be in a dry and ventilated place, which allows easy access to the gain knob (which should be adjusted to eliminate any factors that may negatively affect signal reception).
