Cables and tubes for wheelhouses
Unlike hydraulic steering, in mechanical outboard steering, the force to the engine is transmitted directly from the steering wheel via a cable. The main advantages of mechanical steering are to be found in the lower cost and simple installation, which lend themselves more to novices than the more complex hydraulic steering. In addition to this, there is also a tactile component, since with mechanical outboard steering there is a feeling of more direct control of the rudder than with hydraulic steering.
