Electronic bilge switch - Sentinel One Star

The smart bilge switch that solves the annoying problem of water in the bilge, even when you are away from the boat. It can be installed outside the bilge and turns the pump on automatically when water comes to wet its sensors, and turns it off as soon as the problem is solved.

Interesting note is how easy it is to install, taking only 20 minutes.

Description

fni.png Since 1983 the Tuscan company has been able to offer a catalog that now features more than 10,000 accessories from the best manufacturers around the world.
Since 2010 they begin the design of the SENTINEL ONE STAR switch until they were awarded the very prestigious Dame award in 2011.

The operation of sentinel is very simple: when powered it goes into standby. The moment the water level reaches the sensors and wets them at the same time for at least 30 seconds, Sentinel activates the pump, which will be automatically turned off 15 seconds from the moment one of the two sensors is no longer reached by water.

ISTRUZIONI SENTINEL_ONE_STAR-2.jpg

Two stainless steel plates(P1),(P2) act as sensors

  • One is mounted on the pump body vertically by securing it with two plastic clamps(FF1) and connecting it to the brown cable
  • One on the outlet pipe by two plastic clamps(FF2), this one is to be bent about 90° so that the lug(c) remains higher than the bottom(l) of the other plate.

Plate P1 functions as the on/off trip level.
When the liquid reaches it, after 30 seconds, sentinel turns on the pump.

When it remains uncovered by the liquid, sentinel keeps the pump running for another 15 seconds and then turns it off.

Key aspects of sentinel to consider:

  • Installation of the electronic part is done where you prefer.
  • The electronic part is not placed inside the bilge, so it will never come in contact with dirt or oxidizing agents.
  • There is no presence of moving mechanical parts that can get stuck.

These three aspects translate into product quality, safety and durability.

The constraints to be taken into consideration, however, are:

  • The distance between the sensors must not exceed 30 cm.
  • The length of the cables from the switch to the sensors must not exceed 15 m.
  • The switch will not trigger the pump if fuel and oil spills are present.

  • Supply voltage: 10.5V to 30V (in the range of 16V to 21V is not operational).
  • Standby consumption: 1.5 mA
  • Switchable current: 20 A
  • Delays: 15 seconds to trigger, 30 seconds to disarm
